The second-hand shopping app has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update. Social Media Reaction Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification. The company said the revised method more closely matches other platforms. The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction. Measurement Approach Modifications Before the change, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10. The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10. With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18. User Stories A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult". "Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does. Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22. "If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said. Required Changes Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing". "Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she said. Service Background The app has more than 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members. It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop. This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
